Winter Coat Style Inspiration
It’s that time of year again when the leaves begin to fall, there’s a chill in the air and it’s too cold to go out without a jacket; the Autumn is here!
The shops are now full of the Autumn ranges and now is the best time to be buying your new wardrobe (or updates). Even though it’s well away (we hope) from full-on winter temperatures, now is the time to be investing in a winter coat.
This can often prove to be a painful or pain-free experience depending on whether or not you know what you’re looking for. When deciding on a winter coat our personal shoppers suggest asking yourself the following questions.
1) How warm does my winter coat need to be.
Are you someone who walks to and from a train station or are you someone who is mainly in and out of the car. How long you’re likely to be outdoors will decide how warm your coat needs to be. If you know that you’ll be waiting on a cold platform at 7am in January, you’ll need to invest in something warm. If you’re someone that will be in the warmth of your heated car, a lighter weight coat like a trench or a mac would be better.
2) What shape and length will suit me?
Are you petite? If so, avoid anything below the knee that will drown you. Big bust? Avoid any winter coats with large lapels. Do you have a great waist? Show it off with a belted or tailored coat. Whatever your body shape and height there’s a great coat for everyone this season.
3) What do you already have?
If you have your classic black or navy coat, you can invest in a ‘fun’ colourful or printed coat. You should only buy a brightly coloured coat of you already have your staple as you can then still alternate without getting tired of the bright coat.
4) How much is your budget for a winter coat?
You can buy a coast from as little as £25 up to thousands of pounds however you need to ask yourself how long you hope the coat will last. If you’re looking for an investment coat that will last years it’s worth investing and spending money on a good quality coat. If you’re looking for a one season wonder you should consider spending less on a coat.
Once you’ve gone through the checklist you can then start the fun part of shopping!
We’ve put together some of our favourite winter coats that tick different boxes (depending on your requirements).
