Insider Edition: Shopping in NYC

NYC is known for it’s fast pace, unique accent, and of course it’s latest fashion trends. There is always something to do in the city that never sleeps: including shopping. Because the city is one of the world’s major fashion districts, shopping in NYC is full of possibilities. That’s why Style Doctors has created a guide to assist you in finding the best places to get your next additions to your wardrobe.

SoHo, 5th Avenue, Columbus Circle, 14th Street Union Square, and the East Village are all well known areas in New York where natives go to update collections of shoes, clothes, accessories — you name it! Each of these locations offers different kind of experience. Keep in mind that when shopping in NYC, it’s not about buying items that you think are popular. Instead, it’s about trying on and purchasing what you love and what you can see yourself in. Not sure exactly where to find those places? Sign up for a shopping tour with our expert stylists. Until then, here’s the run-down of some of our stylists’ favorite places.

Big Names

It’s all about designers and high-end brands on 5th Avenue. This particular strip includes stores such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, and more. Interested in the names you love but not the tourist vibes? Check out Columbus Circle near midtown. Stuart Weitzman, Michael Kors, and more await you there in an area that’s not so crowded.

Boutiques

Soho and 14th Street are semi-similar, but are different in their own ways. When shopping on 14th street, some days are busier than others. Go in the middle of a week day for a more leisurely shopping adventure. Prefer the hustle and bustle of 5th Ave but want the same novelty experience as 14th Street? SoHo (in lower Manhattan,) is always busy, the sidewalks are smaller, and there are endless boutiques and smaller stores interspersed between names like DKNY, Madewell, H&M, Bloomingdales, and Banana Republic. And then there’s East Village, which holds the most thrift shops in all of NYC. Whether you’re looking for thrifty finds or designer hand-me-downs, you’re bound to find it in the East Village.

Shopping in NYC isn’t hard when you’ve figured out your personal style. Style Doctors stylists are trained to get familiar with each and every one of our clients in order to know which clothes match their lifestyle, interests, and budget. Schedule a shopping appointment today and a Style Doctor can take you to any shopping area you desire.
