Curvy Girl Fashion Tips

Women come in numerous different shapes and sizes, but perhaps one of the most popular is a woman with curves. Curvy girl fashion isn’t different than any other category in the fashion world; you dress to compliment your body shape! The key to loving shopping is understanding your body. And understanding how to dress your body can be difficult. That’s where Style Doctors comes in.

How do I understand my body?

Every body is different. And there are 4 common variations of curvy shapes: hourglass, pear, apple, and inverted triangle. Here’s the rundown from our stylists:

You’re an hourglass if… you have a large bust, a slim waist, and wider hips.

You’re a pear if… you have narrow shoulders and a small-average sized bust, complimented by wider hips and a larger bottom.

You’re an apple if… you’re curvy throughout the midsection, but have slim arms and legs.

You’re an inverted triangle if… your bust is large and shoulders are broad, but your hips and bottom are narrow or straight.

None of the above? You can also be a cross between body-shapes!

Dressing for your shape

After you’ve figured out which shape you are, the next step is to find clothes that compliment your frame. No matter your shape, you can never go wrong with high-waisted skirts or jeans. They cinch at the waist, which is the smallest part of you, to show off your gorgeous figure. And when in doubt, add a belt.

Want to draw more attention upwards? Accessorize with statement jewelry and sweetheart or plunging necklines. Prefer to show off your hips and bottom? Go for form-fitted dresses and jeans, with high-neck tops. In love with your arms or legs? Sleeveless shift or fit-and-flare dresses show just the right amount of skin for any occasion, and are easy to layer under blazers or jackets.

The long-line waistcoat is a wardrobe must-have as it helps elongate the body and creates a flattering column-like look. A waistcoat is also great in summer over those thinner tops that you’re never sure what to wear on top.

A block heel (or any heel in fact) also helps elongate the body. Not a heel person? Choose a color that works in harmony with your trousers/skirt. By wearing a similar color you will be lengthening your legs and create a more streamlined look.

Our main tip when dressing for any body-shape in understanding what you like best and highlighting that area NOT trying to cover the part you like the least.
